About UMI

The Vision: United Missions India supports, trains and sends missionary couples to India to serve in villages where people have resisted the Gospel of Jesus Christ since the first century A.D. Most of the receptive groups in India have been reached by the Gospel through various
NGO’s and churches. However, many resistant and persecuting groups that have been ignored by other ministries still exist in districts across the state of India.

The Call: Most of the time the temple authorities and villages leaders of these resistant groups have organized systems to oppose missionaries, even resorting to physical abuse. In the 18 villages that UMI currently resides it is not uncommon for Bibles, vehicles and even missionaries themselves to be set afire by hostile locals. The missionaries must be 100 percent committed to their work and make many sacrifices in order to live amongst the villagers as if they were “lambs amongst wolves,” Luke 10:3.

The UMI Approach: Many villages are closed to the Gospel in India but the love of God compels us to reach them anyway. Unlike the common missionary model in India to reach the lower caste first, we feel driven to reach the higher castes first since they influence the rest of the community. We target villages with 2000 to 3000
families, of which the majority are high caste. We find housing for our missionaries to settle into these communities and preach my way of actions, not just words. At UMI we spread the words of Christ by providing medical and educational assistance to the members of the communities we enter. In addition to our locations in South/Central India we also have recently extended our service to include one area in North India and one in Western Nepal.
